Why Diets Fail or
the Monotony of Broccoli

I wondered why diets fail, and then I realized it should all be blamed on broccoli. broccoli flower, Photo courtesy PhotoXpress.com Some of my friends who are self-proclaimed "picky eaters" can’t stand the repetitiveness of always eating the exact same healthy food such as broccoli. After too much broccoli they decide that McDonalds makes a wonderful alternative vegetable called a French fry and that is the end of broccoli or any other healthy vegetable.

Eating the exact same food over and over is one of the main reasons diets fail. You just can't feel deprived and stay healthy.

When I was young, my parents used to follow a specific diet when they felt desperate to lose a few pounds. I don’t remember the name of it, but I can remember the routine. Breakfast: grapefruit and toast. Lunch: fruit salad, any kind, all you want. Dinner: lunch meat, any kind all you want.

By day three of the diet, it was any kind, all you want of any junk food they could find. This diet did not allow them to accommodate the real world of work, school, and play into their food choices.

Eat a Variety of Healthy Foods

The more healthy foods you try, the wider variety you get, the leaner and healthier you are. Even my husband decided that green beans may not be so bad, if they come with a bit of bleu cheese on top.

And as for broccoli? Bring it on --just not every day of the week.
