We tried the new Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Effervescent last night. Nordic Naturals sent me a few packages to test, knowing I would give them an honest evaluation.
Their Omega-3 Effervescent is a powder you add to water to make a fizzy Omega-3 drink. One package contains a day’s worth of Omega-3’s including EPA and DHA. As a bonus, it also has 1200 IU of vitamin D3, to help you absorb calcium. Smart thinking.
A Short Lesson on How Liquid Omega -3 Works in Your Body
I needed to know: Does your body absorb the Omega-3 from a liquid as well as as it does from a pill or capsule? The short answer is yes and the effervescent liquid may even be better than the capsule.According to Bradley West, ND, Nordic Naturals Research Advisor, “in traditional delivery systems like soft gels, the omega-3s in cod liver oil need to be gradually broken down by stomach acids in order to be absorbed in the small intestine. With the effervescent technology in place, the omega-3s can be absorbed and enter the blood stream faster – in as little as 15 minutes.” In addition to quicker absorption, the product is also easy on the stomach.

Digestive challenges? Was somebody talking to my son and his belly that needs probiotics?
We tried this newest version of Omega-3’s from Nordic Naturals because I am still confident that they have the best product for my family. I remain concerned about mercury levels in fish, but I completely agree that fish is a very important part of a healthy diet plan.
I research other products and companies, and I keep coming back to Nordic Naturals. They use wild fish that are low on the food chain and naturally high in Omega-3. They have the purest fish oil available at a reasonable price. Sounds fair to me, so we keep using their products.
The Taste Test
But back to the Omega-3 Effervescent taste test. I am skeptical of any fish oil in water. It brings me back to our early days of the fish oil slick on top of the orange juice. The simple chemistry of oil and water tells me they don’t mix.
None of my kids wanted to try, “the new fish oil”. That is, until they saw me empty the content of the Nordic Naturals Omega-3 effervescent into the water.
The water starting fizzing and my test panel of three kids was far more interested. They were hoping that it would foam over, and that their mother would have another kitchen disaster on her hands. But much to their disappointment, it stayed neatly in the glass.
Bravely, I took the first sip of the fish oil potion, expecting to taste greasy fishy fizz.
The Results: It is REALLY Good!
But wait! It was really good! I was so surprised. And I got three thumbs up from my test panel of kids.
My oldest daughter thought it tasted like Orangina soda.
My picky middle daughter declared it “really yummy”.
My youngest son now thinks I’m serving him soda for breakfast!
Who knew that giving my kids healthy Omega -3 fish oil would make me cool with the kindergarten crowd?
