Healthy Diet Tips from
the Lamb Chop Monster

One of my favorite healthy diet tips involves small plate restaurants or “tapas”, which are very popular right now When you eat at a tapas restaurant, you order small plates of many different items and share them with other people at the table. My husband loves tasting and sharing plates.

Despite all the discussion with my kids about sharing, I have learned that I do not like to share my food. The first time my husband took me to a tapas restaurant I signed up for the plate sharing program and tasted this and that.

I went home after my tapas meal and ate a hamburger.

The tapas meal did not make me feel satisfied despite the $60 per person tab. I have a hard time spending $60 on snacks and still being hungry.

I told my husband I would only return to a tapas restaurant only if I could order and eat my own plate with no sharing. He agreed and we went out to dinner with two other couples. When it came time to order, I ordered an extra plate of lamb chops just for me.

When the two succulent juicy little chops arrived on my small plate, I gleefully began to devour them. Mid mouthful, I heard a gasp from the couple next to me. The woman threw her hand across my plate, shouting at the top of her lungs, “Aren’t you going to share?” Clearly my husband had not informed our dining companions that his wife, the lamb chop devil, was joining everyone for dinner.

I went home full that night, with four fewer friends.

I later realized that it can be hard to put too much food on a small plate. Because I do not like eating from plastic or paper plates, my husband and I usually eat from salad plates. Of course this smaller plate idea may be a ploy from my husband to do less clean up work after dinner.
