25 Healthy Snack Ideas And the List Keeps Growing!
Finding 25 healthy snack ideas seemed impossible, but what started as a list of 10 items has now grown to over 25, with new items being added all the time.
My personal favorite healthy snacks are whole almonds, Clif Luna bars, and any kind of cheese. I keep some snacks stashed in my purse for when I am hungry and on the run.
I am always scanning the grocery store for new snack foods and am personally a big fan of organic foods for many reasons. Not ingesting pesticides while creating sustainable farming appeals to my newfound sense of preserving the planet for my children.
But simply because the label says “organic” or “all natural” does not mean it is necessarily the best nutrition or caloric combination. In the healthy diet mom kitchen every calorie needs to be packed with nutrition.
I recently saw organic toaster pastries in the cereal aisle of my grocery store. I rejoiced at the idea of my beloved childhood pop-tarts being healthy. Organic flour and organic fruit and frosting! Bring it on. With a trembling hand, I forced myself to read the label.
Each pastry had 200 calories, 20 grams of sugar, and 1 gram of fiber. The only real vitamins were 8% of the RDA of iron. I knew I would be better off eating a bag of cereal, a power bar, or many other snacks.
How often do you see a grown woman in aisle five of the grocery store holding a pop tart box and loudly weeping? Such is the curse of a food label reader.
