Drink Water to Stay Healthy
Drink Water to Lose Weight

sugar soda

Drink water to lose weight. Drink water to stay healthy. Drink water because you are thirsty. Just drink water.

Why can’t I just have a couple of sodas every day? They can’t be that bad, right?

I used to drink regular sodas, which have about 12 teaspoons of sugar in one soda!

If you eliminate 2 sodas a day from your diet, that’s 24 teaspoons of sugar a day. You could feel healthier, have more energy, and lose a pound every 2 weeks by just drinking water.

Out of sheer paranoia I decided to stop drinking sodas when I was pregnant with my first child.

I was concerned that future research would show that any exposure to soda during pregnancy would cause my children to develop blue hair and an affinity for loud rock music. That may happen anyway, despite the lack of soda. But for now, I will stick to water.

Boring, inexpensive, tap water

I have a BPA free water bottle that I bought on sale for $3.00. It is tall, orange, ugly, and top rack dishwasher safe. I fill it up with water and ice and bring it with me when I can remember.

I don't think "drink water to lose weight" and I don’t count the number of glasses of water I drink every day. I’m simply not willing to dedicate precious (and some days dwindling) brain power to counting glasses of water. I made it a habit to reach for water when I need something to drink. Sometimes I add a few slices of lemon for a little variety and flavor.

I discovered that I really like ice in my water and I drink more water when it is cold. Originally when we moved into our house, our refrigerator didn’t have an automatic ice maker. Somehow in my epic struggle of woman versus ice cube trays, the trays won and I never had enough ice for my water, which means I probably wasn’t drinking enough water.

Imagine my joy when we finally bought a refrigerator with an automatic ice dispenser.

Imagine my horror when I realized I was ecstatic about an appliance. Perhaps I am immersed a little too deeply into motherhood.

drink water If I am out of the house and I don’t have my big orange water bottle with me, I will find a water fountain. As a last resort I share a sippy cup with my three year old, which elicits some strange looks from other adults at the grocery store.

Perhaps they are wondering what is actually inside the sippy cup that would make a grown woman want to drink from it.

Sparkling Water If you are trying to drink water to lose weight, or because you know that it is the right thing to do for your body, drinking water all the time can be boring.

An alternative to plain water is sparkling water with fruit essence. I discovered that some sparkling waters contain fruit juice, sugar, artificial sweetener and plenty of calories, so I avoid those choices.

I thought I would be bored just drinking water, milk and the occasional orange juice but I felt so much better that after having my children I never went back. It is just a habit now to reach for water and milk.

Does it count if I put water in an evening cocktail?

I can remember a time when I thought martinis were one of the major food groups. Now my five year old and I discuss the merits of the cow pictures on the milk cartons. Except for the occasional glass of wine or cocktail, there is not a lot of alcohol for this healthy diet mom.

I understand that some studies show the heart healthy benefits of drinking wine. I’m sure there are many healthy people that can incorporate a glass of wine into their daily diet.

And if you can make it work for you, then that’s part of your own health plan. I just find that alcohol increases my appetite, and makes me sleepy. Drink water to lose weight? For me, maybe it should be "drink water to stay awake".
